The Real Thing from Brandon Kelley short movie

In a short film intended to promote transgenderism, a soldier returns home to find that his son, Robert, is now a girl named Allie. “The Real Thing,” was originally funded on Kickstarter and met its goal of raising $10,000 with the help of 77 backers. “When a soldier returns home, things have often changed. For Staff Sergeant Michael Waltze, the ultimate change is in his child. While on his tour of duty, his daughter has transitioned and started living her truth. Today he is coming home to surprise her. Parental love is unconditional. It transcends a person’s memory of their child. The Real Thing is an infinitely stronger bond.” Staff Sergeant Waltze’s son Robert aka Allie is played by Sophia Grace Gianna who is an actual transgender. She has also acted in Season 3 of Amazon’s Transparent, acting as the younger transgender self of the main actress in an episode that goes back in time. The Episode’s writer said that looking at the childhood experiences of someone “assigned the wrong gender at birth” is “a story that hasn’t been told yet.” Maybe the director of “The Real Thing,” Brendon Kelly thought that transgender military children were an “untold story” despite the issue of transgenders within the military making headlines since the decision to open the military to gays and transgenders was made by President Obama.
